Anglo-American Hotel, Florence

Built in 1892, the Anglo-American Hotel in Florence was a favourite stop-over for the wealthy British and American travellers in the wake of the Grand Tour. The hotel was recently renovated by the Italian architect Chiara Caberlon and I spent a day with her creating some new images for the studio’s archive.

Now part of the Hilton's Curio Collection, the hotel has retained its original architectural elements with Chiara’s Caberlon’s project incorporating a number of references to English decor and 1920s design. As a homage to the ‘Scorpion’ ladies that would sit and drink tea there every day, afternoon tea is still served at 5pm.
