IN A DARK TIME
These photographs were produced to mark the 90th anniversary of the First World War, at the Italian front from the river Piave to Monte Grappa. Two series of images run in parallel - landscapes and found objects - each one intended to provide a context for the other. The images are dark, reflecting both the horror of past events and the idea of a fading memory. It is a darkness which asks the viewer to search deeper. The work was exhibited at the Spazio Paraggi Gallery in Treviso, with the images mounted on black panels and lined together to suggest memorial stones in a cemetery. The project was also published as a book, ‘Piccole Memorie dalla Grande Guerra’ (Canova, 2008)
